Well here we are again. Almost a year since the last time. Much has happend, to much to go int here. Life comes at you fast... I have managed to keep up with photographing though not at my usual pace. Hopefully I can get myself restarted and continue to work on some of the new projects I have had in mind. Some new ideas with the figure work and landscapes. More on this later.ko

I'm back...
Well it has been some time since I have been here. Mostly due to my eneptness at computing and some "personal life" stuff. Hopefully I will be able to maintain a presence now.
Some new developments... I have been "picked up" by the Blue Horse Gallery and also have a studio down town (above the gallery). It is really nice to have the space to do some of the work I couldn't fit in at home because of the small area I had to work in. Hopefully I will be able to continue the figure work project and a number of other projects I have had in mind for some time.
I will try to maintain a presents here to keep the world posted on my progress. ko

Just can't help it
I love to photograph ...just the magic of it is exciting. I am continually amazed at the process that allows what I see to end up on a piece of paper to review and play with over and over again. I truly enjoy it, there is nothing heavy, no deep philosophical ponderings, no message that the rest of you must see to make your life more understandable. I do it because it feels good and I'm elated when I do it well enough that I'm ok with sharing.
The "Three Pears, 2006" is one of my most recent photographs. I found these on a recent trip to the market. "Pick me, pick me" they shouted. "We're round and juicy (and maybe sweet as well)". I brought them home, (they'd be good for a snack). They sat on the counter for a day or so, just sitting there being pears, lovely Red Comice pears from somewhere in South America. They sat there until I could resist them no longer. I grabbed them up, trundled them off to my studio and had my way with them. We danced for days and I loved every moment ... lost in it... totally surrendered to the time, effort, and materials. Totally oblivious to warming, warring world outside that constantly jars my senses and causes me to wonder if there really is intelligent life on this planet.

Illusions
I'm reading a new book, PESSIMISM by Joshua Foa Dienstag. Though I'm only into the second chap. it has reinforced some ideas that I have held for some time. We all have our illusions, they are the framework through which we access the world and interact with it.
The positive/negative connotations that we use to describe the good or bad energy of individuals or issues is, I think, a misconception. The issues are 1.) that people do good or bad things (the judgement of which depends on where you're standing) and 2.) That feelings are just responses to stimuli and are neither good or bad , positive or negative. Pessimism is a point of view and like optimism is neither positive or negative or inherently good or bad, though, as Dienstag writes, it has suffered much as a philosophical thread throughout history. Hopefully that will change.
One may wonder what this all has to do with the "nature" of things or photography. A good question. I hope to address this and other questions in future posts. ko
